The northern municipality of Haría became the epicenter of regional and national sport on Saturday. The second edition of the Haría Extreme welcomed almost a thousand participants who tested their physical fitness through the tough trails of Haría. Luis Alberto Hernando from Aragon and Oihana Kortazar in the women's category became the winners of the second edition, which was valid for the Spanish and Canary Islands Mountain Racing Cup.

In less than a year, the Haría Extreme has become one of the most important mountain racing events in the country. The good reception of the first edition has meant that the Haría Extreme has been included as the second scoring event of the season for the Spanish Cup and is responsible for kicking off the newly created Canary Islands Mountain Racing Cup.

At eight in the morning, the nearly 400 participants in the ultra-distance category started in the Haría square, facing a tough 32-kilometer course. From the beginning, Luis Alberto Hernando and Tófol Castanyer were in charge of setting the pace of the race and selecting the runners who stayed at the head of the race.

Luis Alberto Hernando from Aragon gradually opened up the differences with respect to the second classified and the minimal advantage allowed him to cross the finish line in first place. Luis Alberto Hernando used a time of 2 hours, 34 minutes and 28 seconds to cover the 32 kilometers of the course. He was just eight seconds ahead of Tófol Castanyer, who was second. The podium was completed with the third place of Iván Órtiz (02:36:49).

In the women's category, Oihana Kortazar was the winner of the ultra-distance category, fulfilling the predictions that pointed her as the top favorite to take the victory. Oihana Kortazar invested a time of 3 hours, 7 minutes and 16 seconds to complete the 32 kilometers of the course. The second classified was Ana Conde (3:12:59) and third was Eva María Moreda (03:13:09).

Yeray Durán and Ankara Ramos, the best Canarians

The second edition of the Haría Extreme is valid for the Canary Islands Mountain Racing Cup, taking interest in the classification of the first Canarians to cross the finish line. In the men's category, Yeray Durán from Gran Canaria with a time of 2:54:44 was the first to cross the finish line and adding the necessary points to place himself in the lead of the Canary Islands Mountain Racing Cup.

Ankara Ramos was the winner in the women's category, being the winner of the Atroactive Grand Prize Canary Islands Cup. The Gran Canaria athlete from the Artenara Trail club crossed the finish line ahead of Laura Barrera, who had to settle for second place.

Fernando Toribio and Lorena de León, winners of the Medium

The Medium category of the Haría Extreme had the participation of about 250 runners and who had to face a 22-kilometer course. Fernando Toribio from Lanzarote was the fastest in the men's category, making a time of 1:47:55. The podium was completed with the second place of José Carlos Ciprian and the third place of Daniel Santana.

Among the women, Lorena de León with a time of 2:24:01 was the winner of this modality. Dory Robayna and Maider Insausti, were the second and third athletes who crossed the finish line in this modality

Starter Category for all audiences

Many runners decided to start in the world of hiking and mountain racing, and took the start in the starter mode. 11 kilometers of route that could be done walking. The beginners were delighted with the wonders offered by the Haría Extreme and many of them assured that next year they will repeat the experience.
