“It is very important to have good infrastructures such as those offered here, both in Puerto Calero and in Marina Lanzarote, for the preparation of an Atlantic crossing” With these words, the award-winning navigator Juan Vila referred to his experience in Calero Marinas, in Lanzarote to prepare the eleventh edition of the RORC Transatlantic Race.
To his impressive record, which includes winning the Julio Verne, the Volvo Ocean Race and the America's Cup, he can add the line of honor for monohulls of the RORC Transatlantic Race, also beating the record held by Mitch Booth's Comanche boat in 2022, which was 7 days, 22 hours 1 minute and 4 seconds.
Bryon Ehrart's impressive Maxi arrived in Port Luis, on the island of Granada at 9:19:41 UTC this Monday, January 20, after taking part in the departure from Marina Lanzarote on January 12.
Bryon Ehrhart's Juan K Maxi 88 (USA) arrived in Lanzarote on November 4 to prepare for this Atlantic crossing in competition mode. With its twenty-seven meters of length and seven meters of draft, this competition boat has very particular characteristics and needs that could be resolved without major complications in the Calero Marinas infrastructures, being able to beach the boat very close to its mooring to carry out the most important maintenance and set-up work to face the test.
Unbeatable conditions for sailing in Lanzarote was also something highlighted by Juan Vila, as it allows these crews to maximize training time and face the regatta with greater guarantees.
