Lola Carrión wins the 11th César Manrique Optimist Trophy

In addition to winning in the sub´13 category, the sailor also achieved second place in sub´16 and has been the best sailor of the selective process

The bay of Arrecife hosted this weekend a new edition of the César Manrique Trophy, with which the Canarian Optimist Circuit has closed, and which has served for the preparation of the sailing team that will represent the Canary Islands in the Optimist Spanish Cup and Championship. Lola Carrión, from Lanzarote, a member of the Royal Nautical Club of Arrecife, has been the best sailor in the selective process of the Royal Canarian Sailing Federation.

More than a hundred sailors gathered this weekend on the island of Lanzarote, competing for three days in the XI César Manrique Trophy. Canarian sailing featured the participation of Club Deportivo Náutico Fuerteventura. Real Club Náutico de Gran Canaria, Club Marítimo Varadero, Club de Regatas Fuerteventura Isla del Viento, Club de Regatas 4Vientos, Club de Mar Radazul, Real Club Náutico de Tenerife and the hosts of the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife, and four sailors from the Real Club Náutico San Sebastián joined them all.

The day of Friday was marked by the strong wind that blew in the bay of Arrecife, the boats remaining on land. Some conditions that improved throughout the weekend, which allowed the development of the three heats of Saturday and the three races held on the day of Sunday. The sailors have enjoyed an excellent race course, demonstrating their skill in each of the maneuvers.

In the sub´11 category, Olivia Bazán (CM Radazul) took the triumph among the females and the victory in the male category went to Pablo García (Real Club Náutico de Gran Canaria). The podium was completed with the second place of Hugo Díaz (Real Club Náutico de Arrecife) and the third position of Pablo Curbelo (Real Club Náutico de Arrecife).

Lola Carrión (Real Club Náutico de Arrecife) and Pablo Medina (Real Club Náutico Gran Canaria), have been the winners of the sub´13 category. Elena Tortosa (CM Varadero) and Paola Pérez (Real Club Náutico Tenerife), have completed the female podium with the second and third position, respectively. And in the male category, Pablo Morales (Real Club Náutico Gran Canaria) has been the second classified and Martín Betancort (CM Varadero) the third.

In the sub´16 category, Emilie Pérez (Real Club Náutico Gran Canaria) and Gonzalo Ramos (Real Club Náutico Tenerife) have been proclaimed winners of the XI César Manrique Trophy.

The men's podium has been completed with the second place of Jorge Pérez and the third position of Santiago Pérez, both sailors from the Real Club Náutico de Tenerife. And in women's, Lanzarote's Lola Carrión has taken the runner-up title and Julia Bazán (CM Radazul) has been third.

The XI César Manrique Optimist Trophy concluded on Sunday afternoon with the trophy presentation, an event that featured the presence of the president of the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife, Julio Romero, and who was accompanied by members of the club's Board of Directors. The trophy presentation began with the presentation of a distinction for the sailors who concluded their participation in the Optimist class in 2025.

Next, the team that will represent the Canary Islands in the Spanish Cup and Spanish Optimist Championship was announced, and which has been formed based on the results obtained in the three events of the Canary Optimist Circuit. The competition began with the Manolo Pazos Trophy in Gran Canaria, continued with the Pel Escuder Trophy in Tenerife and concluded with the César Manrique Trophy in Lanzarote.

The XI César Manrique Trophy & Naviera Armas – Transmediterránea Trophy has been organized by the Royal Nautical Club of Arrecife by delegation of the Royal Canarian Sailing Federation and the Spanish Optimist International Class Association, with the sponsorship of the Art, Culture and Tourism Centers of Lanzarote, and the collaboration of Naviera Armas – Transmediterránea and La Caixa. In addition, it had the institutional collaboration of the Government of the Canary Islands, Cabildo de Lanzarote, Insular Sports Service, European Sport Destination, Arrecife City Council, Arrecife Sports, Arrecife Tourism, the collaboration of Gran Hotel Arrecife, CICAR and Juan Toledo Renault and the support of the Spanish Association of Nautical Clubs and the Canarian Association of Nautical Clubs.
