Lionel Morales was proclaimed this Saturday in Águilas, Murcia, Spanish Champion 2023 of his category with a time of 1:10:24 representing CD Natación Nadamas Las Marinas.
The Lanzarote native was on the podium ahead of Javier Bergara from the Balearic Islands of AD Ibiza Half Triathlon, second with a time of 1:30:42, and Esteban Lucio Alañón from the Madrid Club
Triathlon 401 in the third box of the podium.

Morales explained after winning the national crown that "the sensations were very good from the beginning, I left the water first, in the transition I always lose some time having to change my prosthesis. On the bicycle it went very well, I doubled those in my category and in the race I entered very strong but then I slowed down because I have the World Cup next Saturday."

"I am very happy after the experience to forget that I had here in 2014 when I even ended up in a coma due to excessive heat. I am very happy to finish being champion of Spain and now to continue preparing for the World Cup in the peninsula. I'm going to Blume on Monday and Tuesday, on Wednesday we're going up to Pontevedra, where the World Cup is held with a view to the longed-for Paris. Thank you for all the congratulatory messages, a pride to fight for my island and for my country,” concludes the new Triathlon Champion of Spain, Lionel Morales.
