Lionel Morales achieved fourth position in his category this Saturday at the World Championship held in Pontevedra.
The fact of being just short of the podium at the World Championship has a sweeter taste than expected, as it implies that, barring any surprises, Morales has secured a place in his PTS2 category
for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games representing Spain.
Upon finishing the race in Galicia, Morales assessed, "A fourth place is positive after what I suffered in Paris, where I almost didn't finish due to COVID, which had me with a fever for almost a month, but I was able to recover well. We have to improve things, but I'm back in the race again. I think I've already secured the place to go to the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, as I'm fourth in the Paralympic ranking, so I'm quite happy with what happened in Pontevedra. In swimming, I started quite well with the leaders. I always take a little longer than the others in the transition because I have to change my prosthesis. On the bike, I was third, and in the race, while running third, a guy from the Netherlands passed me who runs the five thousand in 17 minutes, he has both legs. On that part, I'm a little scratched because I was close to the podium and he overtook me at the last minute, but, looking ahead to Paris, I'm very happy because I secured the place to go to France," concludes Lionel Morales.
Morales achieved fourth place in the World Championship held in Pontevedra after having achieved, just a few days ago, the 2023 Spanish Championship in his category in Águilas, Murcia.
