The Lanzarote Puerto del Carmen women's Division de Honor Oro team achieved victory this Saturday at the Tías Municipal Hall in their first official match of the season against Romade de Tamaraceite (31-20) in a match corresponding to the first day of the Canary Islands Government Cup.
The match didn't have much history. The Tiñosa team, from a higher category, started more plugged in (4-0, min.5), obtaining an initial advantage that they would not relinquish during the match.
Roberto Santana's squad couldn't find the key, while the aurinegras used the well-known manual, at times a strong defense, Mazaira fine in goal, long pass and counterattack.
Minutes passed and Romade ran out of options, reaching halftime eight goals down (16-8).
Casanova was doing the typical preseason tests and giving the bench a chance. Yuli Quevedo felt some discomfort in a calf and sat down to avoid further problems, joining Carolina López and Andrea Guerrero on the bench, slight absences today due to the physical rigor of Toño Cedrés' preseason.
In the second half, nothing would change. Superiority and control of the locals who, although there are many things to improve, did not see the score in danger at any time.
The Tiñosa coach, Jesús Casanova, spoke after the victory, "the preseason is being intense, with a lot of physical work, as it couldn't be otherwise. The players are very loaded right now, with some discomfort, but well, we are in line with what we had planned. It has been the first game with many mistakes, it is normal for this to happen. A little disappointed with the defense, it is the only thing we had worked on with some intensity and we didn't quite find the theme. Above all, we lack consistency, anticipating the movements of the opposing team and there we are going to have a lot of work. We have the positive aspect of the counterattack transition, I think we are doing it well without practically training it. And I think that's where our options lie, defending a little better or much better and perfecting the counterattack transition a little more, there we may have certain possibilities of achieving the results we want." Regarding what is coming for the Tiñosa squad, Casanova is sincere, "this week will be of a lot of physical work, it's time to continue insisting on that because we have to prepare the team for what awaits us and, from there, start by continuing to perfect the defense, I insist again that we are lacking there, above all, forcefulness, and then the attack, which we have not done anything, so we have a lot of hard work ahead of us," concludes the aurinegro technical director.
Haridian Rodríguez became the top scorer for the visitors and the match with eight goals. Lucía Betancort was very close, the top scorer for Tiñosa with seven goals, well accompanied in the offensive facet by Brenda Torres and Lucía Olivier, with six goals each.
Jesús Casanova's squad will visit Rocasa Gran Canaria on the second day. It will be next Saturday, September 6 at 12:00 hours in the Antonio Moreno Insular Pavilion.
