The island of Lanzarote hosts this weekend a new edition of the prestigious Pancho Camurria Tournament of Canarian Wrestling. The best wrestlers in the youth category meet on the Island of Volcanoes, with the aim of taking the title of the Canarian Wrestling Youth Selections Championship to the showcases. The Lanzarote Selection aspires to play a good role and on Friday night faced Tenerife in the Terrero Andrés Curbelo "Pollo de Tao". The Lanzarote team faced the great favorite to the final victory, with Tenerife winning 9-12. The good performance of Sixto Rodríguez, who brought down four opponents, could not counteract the potential of Tenerife.
From the first moment, it was the wrestlers of the Tenerife Selection who took the reins of the confrontation. Eusebio Ledesma put the first point on the scoreboard for Tenerife. In these first chairs, the good work of Francisco Reyes stood out, a wrestler who brought down two opponents. Cristian Hidalgo also scored a point for the local squad, putting the score in a three-way tie.
The Tenerife Selection began to mark the first differences and with some ease was increasing the advantage on the scoreboard. Borja Ramos gave Cristian Hidalgo two in a row and Argeo García did the same with Cristian Elvira. David Abreu gave no options to a Fabio Martín who had just eliminated Sergio Rodríguez and Borja Ramos gave Alejandro Umpiérrez two in a row. The scoreboard reflected a clear 4 to 8 in favor of Tenerife.
One of the keys to the confrontation was the duel between Álvaro Torres (Lanzarote) and Eduardo de la Rosa (Tenerife). A vibrant grapple that the two wrestlers starred in and that was decided on the side of Eduardo de la Rosa in the third grapple. After this confrontation, Tenerife doubled Lanzarote's score (5-10) and practically Sixto Rodríguez was left alone in the face of danger.
Sixto Rodríguez, a wrestler who is in the CL Rosario de Tenerife this season, offered his best version. Before being eliminated, he brought down David Abreu, Borja Ramos, Eduardo de la Rosa and Sandro Ramos. In the last confrontation of the night, Sixto Rodríguez gave the first to Argeo García. The Tenerife wrestler reacted and came back in the confrontation, scoring the partial triumph in the second and third grapple. The final score was 9 to 12 in favor of Tenerife.
Prior to the match between Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, two more matches were played in the preliminary phase of the Pancho Camurria Tournament. Tenerife in the inaugural match won by 9 to 12 against Gran Canaria and La Palma defeated 12 to 8 to Fuerteventura. La Palma and Tenerife are the big favorites to take the final victory.
On the morning of this Saturday the Pancho Camurria Tournament will continue and the fights will move to the Luis Montero de Haría. La Palma ? El Hierro (10:00), Lanzarote ?
