The 4 Stage MTB Race Lanzarote 2023 has kicked off with an exciting first stage in which Kristian Østergaard in the men's category and Tessa Kortekaas in the women's category were the main protagonists. The cloudy sky, with rain during some moments of the day, accompanied the participants in their debut.
The race, organized by Club La Santa and included in the calendar of the International Cycling Union (UCI), has brought together more than 400 bikers who will tour the island of Lanzarote over four exciting days. In addition, it has the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Tourism of Lanzarote and European Sports Destination as collaborating entities.
Equality to the end in the men's category; Kortekaas dominated from the beginning in the women's category
The first stage had a route of 44 kilometers, with beginning and end in the facilities of Club La Santa, with a very high pace since the start was given.
The maximum equality was the dominant note in the men's category. In the first 25 kilometers, Karl Markt was placed at the head of the race with a very high pace, with Jacob Reyes and Mario Sinués being the most immediate pursuers of the leader. In the second part of the stage, the Danish Kristian Østergaard tightened to remontar and take a tight victory, arriving with only 14 seconds of difference over Markt. The third position was for Jacob Reyes, who arrived 21 seconds behind the first classified.
In the women's category, nobody could lower the Dutch Tessa Kortekaas from the leadership. Kortekaas crossed the finish line in first position, with the British Amy Henchoz arriving more than two and a half minutes later, while the Romanian Manuela Muresan completed the provisional podium of this 4 Stage MTB Race Lanzarote that is already underway.
On tomorrow Sunday, the second stage will be held, this time of 57 kilometers. The cyclists will leave again from Club La Santa, will go to Tinajo and continue towards the Montañas de Fuego, to then return to the finish line that will be located again in Club La Santa. Most of the route is a single track.
