Gustavo Martínez, with J.J. Palmensis, wins the CajaCanarias - Casa Rosa Restaurant Trophy in the J80s

At eleven in the morning, the participating boats met at the regatta field, this time having moved to the Puerto del Carmen area, in front of the Hotel San Antonio. The wind of 12 knots of speed, direction N, did not allow the departure due to the continuous rolls to the E, so Luis Jordán, president of the Regatta Committee, decided on a postponement that lasted 90 minutes. At the next attempt, the departure could be given.

The "J.J. Palmensis", skippered by Gustavo Martínez Doreste and belonging to the R.C.N. of La Palma, took the lead of the fleet to end up being the first to cross the finish line. The second place was for Rayco Tabares at the command of the "Hotel Princesa Yaiza", while third place was taken by "Nano" Negrín with "El Fandango". A total of 30 boats managed to finish the race.

The delay suffered at the start of the first race of the three planned, led to the decision to hold the second regatta, giving it as definitive for the validity of the Trophy.

The start of the second and final race also caused problems for the Regatta Committee, which tried to establish the upwind twice to a course of 110º, but again the continuous rolls of the wind forced the start of the race to be postponed.

The wind became established after a long wait, setting the upwind to a course of 010º with a leeward-windward, from the high seas to near the coast next to the Hotel San Antonio. During its development, the wind blew gusty with a speed between 8 and 14 knots.

The race was disputed at the head of the fleet between the "Txo" of Casto Martínez, and "J.J. Palmensis" of Gustavo Martínez. In the end, the victory was for Casto, which did not prevent Gustavo with his second place, from taking the victory in the general classification of the CajaCanarias - Casa Rosa Restaurant Trophy.

Gonzalo Morales Quintana, who in the first regatta had finished seventh with the "Puerto Calero", managed to get into third position as the first local sailor. After him, "Nano" Negrín with "El Fandango" and Rafael Lasso skippering "Ñoh¡" crossed the finish line.

The final general classification was headed by Gustavo Martínez, who thus achieves his third consecutive triumph of the season, preventing the rest of the fleet from premiering with a victory once again. The second position was for Casto Martínez, third was "Nano" Negrín tied at 7 points with the second classified.

The local sailor Gonzalo Morales Quintana, starred in the surprise of the day, finishing fourth overall with a seventh, and a third place.

After the long day in struggle with the wind, the awards ceremony was held at the Casa Rosa Restaurant with a large attendance of participants and sailing fans, Carlos Morales, president of the Fleet, together with Javier Hidalgo of CajaCanarias, and Jimi Lunday of the Casa Rosa Restaurant, were in charge of distributing the awards. Later, in a very recovered nautical atmosphere, a refreshment was offered to the attendees.

The next event of the J80 Class, will be on May 13 and 14 with the fourth trophy of the season, which on this occasion will be sponsored by the Casino Club Náutico de Arrecife.
