Gollito Estredo revalidates his champion title in the PWA Canary Islands Costa Teguise

The Venezuelan José "Gollito" Estredo, won his fifth consecutive title in the PWA Canary Islands - Costa Teguise, fourth scoring event of the world windsurfing circuit in the freestyle category, which ended at Las Cucharas beach, in Lanzarote. The Caribbean rider gave a real exhibition before the thousands of fans who witnessed the grand final against the Belgian Steven Van Broeckhoven. And he did it after suffering a major shoulder injury in the last three minutes of competition. Estredo, who was treated as soon as he left the water, celebrated his fifth consecutive title in Lanzarote and the first of this season as best he could.

The Frenchman Anthony Ruenes, ninth in the world ranking this year, finished third after winning in the semi-final eliminatories against the Dutchman Davi Scheffers, number 5, who at 21 years old is one of the great revelations of the championship. Kiri Thode, leader of the classification, finished in the fifth final position.

It is the fifth consecutive time that José Gollito Estredo has competed in the Lanzarote event, the first of the four stops of the PWA circuit through the Canary Islands: Gran Canaria (Pozo Izquierdo, July 5 to 10), Tenerife (El Médano, July 14 to 2) and Fuerteventura (Sotavento, July 22-30).
