Goalkeeper Santi Lampón will no longer defend the UD Lanzarote jersey in the second half of the season. The player and the club rescinded the commitment they had acquired until the end of the current season on Tuesday afternoon. This separation is due to the economic conditions that the red-and-yellow club will have to go through for the remainder of the season.
Last week, taking advantage of the players' return to training, the Board of Directors of UD Lanzarote explained to the squad the economic conditions that will be experienced in the second half of the season. These circumstances will have to be studied by each of the members of the first team of UD Lanzarote.
Goalkeeper Santi Lampón reached an agreement on Tuesday afternoon to terminate the relationship that committed him to UD Lanzarote until the end of the season. As he is a player from outside the island of Lanzarote, Lampón is obliged to leave the team due to the economic conditions that will occur in the second half of the season.
Santi Lampón has understood the situation that the red-and-yellow club is going through at the moment, and has thanked the club for all the effort it has made to have his services this season. Lampón stated that he had "come to help the team and I am leaving helping UD Lanzarote".
The goalkeeper has played 18 games with the UD Lanzarote jersey this season, being on the field for 1,620 minutes. With 12 goals conceded in the matches he has played, Santi Lampón is currently the goalkeeper with the fewest goals conceded in the Third Division, with a coefficient of 0.67 goals conceded per match.
UD Lanzarote would like to thank Santi Lampón for his professionalism during the months he has defended the red-and-yellow elastic and his willingness to understand the current situation of the club. A player who has contributed his experience in each of the training sessions and who has left very good memories in the UD Lanzarote dressing room.
Looking ahead to the second half of the season, the coaching staff of UD Lanzarote intends to bring several players from the reserve team and the youth team up to the first team. UD Lanzarote will make use of its youth academy to complete the first team squad and create a competitive team for the remainder of the season.
Third departure of the season
The departure of Santi Lampón as a UD Lanzarote player is the third departure suffered by the squad this season. The first to leave the team was striker Jonathan Torres, who was joined months later by midfielder Javo Morales. Both due to work and personal reasons. In the case of Javi Morales, he still holds the federative license.
Lampón's departure may not be the last to occur within UD Lanzarote.
