FC Puerto del Carmen and PDC 2016 signed their merger into a single team, FC Puerto del Carmen, this Tuesday, which will be effective from June and has achieved the integration of both boards of directors and the strengthening of all categories with a squad of about 250 athletes.
The mayor of Tías and the Councilor for Sports, José Juan Cruz and Ismael Cruz, congratulated the presidents of the merged teams, Bienvenido Saavedra and Antonio de León, "for this historic step, which not only represents the union of two great teams, but also the sum of illusions and talent," said the mayor, who highlighted "the effort and the impulse also of previous directors and councilors, who have fought for this and now we have been able to achieve it."
José Juan Cruz stated that they are celebrating "not only a sports agreement, but a commitment to the future." "From the Tías City Council we will continue to firmly support this new club on its path, which will surely be successful on and off the field," he added.
Ismael Cruz thanked the two boards of directors "for the talent and receptivity to reach this consensus, the result of which will be very rich by joining forces and having a more solid structure. We are at your disposal to continue helping and we encourage the population of Puerto del Carmen to continue supporting the local football."
Women's team
Bienvenido Saavedra and Antonio de León will be the president and vice president of FC Puerto del Carmen from June, but yesterday they sealed their unification to continue working together to improve football in Puerto del Carmen. One of the long-term objectives will be, according to Saavedra, to form a women's team. "It is a firm purpose that will not fail and that we will surely achieve," he said.
Saavedra expressed his joy at the integration of both boards of directors in this merger, "which aims to ensure that the town consolidates this great meeting and get the support of the business community in the area." Saavedra referred to the relevance "of the great athletes we have in Puerto del Carmen and the children who are already being encouraged to join our club."
Antonio de León stated for his part that his idea is "to make football in Puerto del Carmen even bigger. We have managed to have a strong structure and always united we will be able to overcome new challenges by giving better opportunities to our young athletes and promoting the values of sport."
