On Saturday, the 29th Font Vella Lanzarote International Marathon was held, an edition in which nearly 2,800 participants crossed the finish line. From very early on, the good sporting atmosphere transmitted by this event organized by Sands Beach Active and the Insular Sports Service of the Cabildo de Lanzarote began to be felt. Despite the forecasts of the last few days, the race once again had spectacular weather conditions, with a temperature that exceeded 23ºC.

MARATHON

At 8:00 a.m. the Marathon distance started from the Sands Beach Resort, with brave runners from all over the world eager to repeat or inaugurate their experience in this race. The first to complete the course was the Belgian runner Diego Van Looy, with a final time of 02:29:21. The second position was for Peru Alfaro, the Spanish triathlete stopped the clock at 02:35:51. The third step of the podium was occupied by David Morris with a final time of 02:38:12.

Meta, Lanzarote International Marathon 2019

In the women's category, the first to cross the finish line was Aroa Merino from Lanzarote, stopping the race clock at 2:47:58. The second place went to Angela McCann with a total time of 03:06:49. The third place in the women's category was achieved by Grace Kennedy, entering the finish line in 03:11:09.

Wheelers


At 09:00 hrs. an emotional start was given to the Wheelers category, the Wielemie Wheelchair Marathon, recovered in this edition of the race and with a previous tribute to the Belgian paratriathlete Marieke Vervoort.

In this category the winner was Vitaly Grisenko with a total time of 00:47:21, followed by Julien Casoli (00:48:57) and the Spaniard Jordi Madera (00:49:00).

Half Marathon


From Puerto del Carmen at 10:30 hrs. the half marathon runners left, who had to reach the Sands Beach Resort in Costa Teguise. The winner of this distance was Juan MIguel Moreno with a total time of 01:12:40. The second to cross the finish line was Luke Boland, who did it in 01:15:34. In third position, with a time of 01:16:14, came Patrick Jonckheere.

In the women's category, the Dutchwoman Nicole Dissel was the first to reach the finish line, stopping the clock at 01:23:38. The second position was for Rachel Davies, with a time of 01:25:30. The third step of the podium was for Jacqui Lane, investing 01:26:33 to reach the finish line.

10 km


In the capital of Lanzarote, Arrecife, the participants of the 10 km category met. The Barcelona native, Jaume Leiva, was not surprised and from the fourth kilometer of the race he was able to take advantage of his rivals and knew how to manage until the finish line, Leiva's final time was 00:32:01. In the second position came the Lanzarote athlete, Tinguaro Quintero stopping the clock at 00:32:31. The third step of the podium was for Adriano Engelhardt with a time of 00:32:39.

TrofeosMarathonLanzarote International 2019

Laura Vílchez was the winner in the 10 km distance, investing 00:37:34 in completing the course. The second position was achieved by Gloria Cuéllar with a total time of 00:38:18. Very close to the second place came Rachelle Botti who finally stopped the clock at 00:38:50.

A great awards ceremony closed this successful edition of the race.
