CICAR Lanzarote Ciudad de Arrecife did not have an easy match on their visit to Anaitasuna, and the División de Honor Oro Femenina team made things difficult for the higher-ranked team. A match marked by adversities for San José Obrero, suffering injuries to Keyla Hernández and Thais Fermo during the match, which diminished their options. Finally, CICAR Lanzarote pulled away on the scoreboard in the final minutes, to end up winning by 22 to 26.
The exchange of goals was constant in the opening minutes of the clash, with Anaitasuna leading on the scoreboard, although they failed to widen the gap. Alba Jurado converted a seven-meter throw to put her team two goals ahead, after the first half had passed its midpoint.
In the 19th minute, Keyla Hernández fell injured on the playing field, and from the first moment, the worst was feared. The CICAR Lanzarote Ciudad de Arrecife player had to be transferred to a medical center, given the signs of pain in her knee, and underwent different medical tests to determine the extent of the injury.
The team was left cold after their teammate's injury, but that didn't stop Thais Fermo from putting CICAR Lanzarote Ciudad de Arrecife ahead on the scoreboard for the first time in the match (11-12). With the score at 13-13, the first 30 minutes came to an end at the Anaitasuna Pavilion.
The second half did not start well for the Lanzarote team, conceding a 2-0 run in the opening minutes, which forced Alfredo Rodríguez to call a timeout. The time on the bench allowed the team to start reacting, and above all, to not give the opposition easy opportunities in defense to prevent their attacks. The Navarre team went many minutes without scoring.
A 1-6 run began to tip the match in favor of CICAR Lanzarote Ciudad de Arrecife (19-24), prompting the Anaitasuna coach to call a timeout with seven minutes remaining. The home side deployed a 3:3 defense to disrupt San José Obrero's game, but the match was already beyond their reach.
