This Thursday marked the end of the first part of the Puerto Calero Gold Cup RC 44, with the second day of match race, in which
all participants faced each other individually.
The Slovenian Ceeref, skippered by James Spithill, finished undefeated in the match race of the Puerto Calero Gold Cup RC 4, winning in all ten of its matches.
This Thursday's day was characterized by the northeast wind between 15 and 20 knots, which allowed all scheduled flights to be disputed, on a day in which Larry Ellison and Russell Coutts' BMW-Oracle could not compete due to
a broken mast, which forced him to return to port to repair and be able to return to the Fleet Racing competition that begins on Friday.
Chris Bake's Team Aqua was second three wins behind the champion and Dean Barker's Artemis third, who today has
recovered and only yielded to Ceeref, counting the rest as victories.
The Islas Canarias Puerto Calero added the first two points, the
first due to the non-appearance of the BMW-Oracle and the second in the last match against Patrick de Barros' Banco Espirito Santo, with whom they maintained a tough fight throughout the regatta, prevailing in the last section in which the Portuguese finally gave way after breaking the spi.
The skipper of Islas Canarias Puerto Calero in the fleet races, Daniel Calero, commented after adding the first points that "for us it is already a success to have won the last regatta against Banco Espirito Santo. It gives us a lot of morale to face the rest of the competition. Our goal was to win a match against one of these greats of world sailing and we have achieved it".
From Friday to Sunday the group or fleet racing regattas will be held.
