CB Lanzarote Puerto del Carmen won its match this Saturday at the Municipal de Tías against Balonmano Bolaños from Ciudad Real (28-27) in the return leg of the promotion phase qualifier. Insufficient result to qualify for the promotion phase to the Division of Honor as in Ciudad Real Balonmano Bolaños won by two goals difference (27-25).
It was not an easy match despite the support in the stands of the Municipal de Tías. From the beginning and during a good part of the match, the visiting players managed to dominate the tempo of the match, with efficiency in attack and hardness, at times excessive, in defense.
But the conejero team fought, not only against the intensity of Balonmano Bolaños, but also against their own problems, until reaching the necessary balance to put themselves in a position to come back in the last third of the match. At that moment, with both teams pushing hard and with the tension sky-high, both playing an entire season in seconds, luck fell on the side of the Ciudad Real team.
The Tías players had the pass to the promotion phase in their hands with just over six minutes left in the match, but Bolaños reacted in time. The pressure in the final minutes from the conejero team was not enough on a day in which the defense and the goal of Lanzarote Puerto del Carmen were not excessively fortunate.
Vino Doña Berenguela Balonmano Bolaños will compete, after a very even tie and with minimal differences, in the promotion phase to the Division of Honor together with the winners of the other three ties, Logroño Sporting La Rioja beat CDEC Lavadores Vigo, Handbol Sant Quirze beat Oviedo Balonmano femenino and Salud Tenerife left out Balonmano Servigroup Bdenidorm.
Despite not achieving the objective after the final match this Saturday, the assessment of the season of CB Lanzarote Puerto del Carmen is positive after fulfilling in their group in the regular season (despite the small crisis in the first months of the year that complicated things a bit until the last match) and being on the verge of the promotion phase.
The coach of CB Lanzarote Puerto del Carmen, Miguel Ángel Lemes, explained after the final whistle that it had been "a complicated match from the beginning due to the difficulty we had in attack to overcome their defense. We didn't have much intensity in defense and it was difficult for us to stop their attack. The goal was not very successful either. All this meant that we didn't get fully into the match.
For the conejero coach everything changed in the second half where "we were able to get two goals ahead but in the end it couldn't be. A disappointment because of how beautiful the stands were. Thank you for all the support given. Congratulations to Bolaños but, above all, congratulations to the girls for the season they have had and hopefully handball can give us another chance", concluded the coach of CB Lanzarote Puerto del Carmen, Miguel Ángel Lemes.
