The Maramajo Basketball Club "Teguise 600 Years of History" has earned the right to be in the EBA League next season, after winning the Canary Islands Championship of the Men's First Regional Division by defeating Náutico Kia Tenerife in the final by 78 to 64. The final was played on Sunday at noon in the Teguise Municipal Pavilion, with the CB Maramajo players celebrating the promotion to the national category.
Pablo Melo's team started poorly in attack, losing in the actions against the Tenerife defense, which managed to take control of the game and take the lead, having an advantage of up to four points during the first quarter. This difference disappeared once the transitions on the benches began, with the locals turning the score around to close the first quarter with a short 9 to 8 in their favor.
In the second quarter, the CB Maramajo "Teguise 600 Years of History" also put on their work clothes in attack and repeatedly overwhelmed the nauta defense, forcing their coach to call a time-out to "weather" the storm. It was useless, the locals understood that the best defense was a good offense and despite conceding 14 points in the quarter, they were able to score 25, opening a gap on the scoreboard and beginning to tip the game in their favor.
After returning to the court after the break, Lázaro González, who had had a discreet performance in front of the rival basket, gave his best version and began his recital. The player from Gran Canaria had not scored a single point in the first half of the game and at the end of the match he managed to do so as the top scorer, thanks to an excellent performance in this third quarter especially.
The Tenerife players, who were holding on as best they could, were still behind on the scoreboard with a difference of 12 points, as they had done in the second quarter. The sensations that both teams left were that we could find anything in the last quarter, because the Tenerife players, despite the difference, were not having a bad match.
Náutico Kia Tenerife tried to be the team that caused the surprise against CB Aridane, the one that had already managed to defeat CB Maramajo "Teguise 600 Years of History" in the regular season. Pablo Melo's boys had learned the lesson well and with an excellent game under the hoops, with Pepón Artiles and José Gómez, they managed to keep the visitors at bay, ending the match with a score of 78 to 64.
The CB Maramajo "Teguise 600 Years of History" was proclaimed champion of the Canary Islands, receiving the trophy from the president of the Canary Islands Basketball Federation, Manolo Gómez, and also earning the right to participate next season in the EBA Basketball League. Now the "other league" will begin, the one to obtain the endorsements so that the team is in the national category next season.
