The third time's the charm. UD Lanzarote, in their third official match of the season, achieved their first victory of the campaign. The red and yellows, dressed in white on Wednesday night, narrowly defeated Alcobendas Sport and advanced through the front door to the second round of the Copa del Rey. Toñito was responsible for revolutionizing the match, and three minutes after being on the field, he scored the winning goal. In the final minutes, Lanzarote defended tooth and nail to secure the narrow victory.
The first half played by both teams was not good at all. Boredom took over the game, and there were few dangerous chances produced in either goal. Edu and Ruymán, goalkeepers of Alcobendas and UD Lanzarote, were luxury spectators in the first half of the match.
As the minutes passed, Alcobendas Sport took control of the match. A control that did not translate into dangerous chances. The attacking actions were isolated. The offensive baggage of UD Lanzarote in this first half was null, and the lines were very separated. The match would reach halftime with a goalless draw.
The game improved at the start of the second half. From the referee's initial whistle, Lanzarote looked more ambitious, stretching lines and being able to get closer to the domains of Alcobendas. A domain that barely lasted a few minutes, the time it took for the Madrid team to regain control of the game. Unlike the first half, there were dangerous chances in the second half.
Alcobendas Sport had two clear actions to take the lead on the scoreboard. The first in the 12th minute, with a cross from Ismael from the wing, Javi Robles volleyed at the far post, and Ruymán responded with a great save to prevent the goal. Minutes later, a shot from Cuevas from the edge of the area would hit the base of the post.
One of the keys to the match occurred in the 23rd minute of the second half. Toñito reappeared in the ranks of UD Lanzarote, after overcoming an ankle sprain that occurred in the preseason, and was responsible for revolutionizing the match. He only needed three minutes to put UD Lanzarote ahead on the scoreboard. The forward received a precise through pass that allowed him to get behind the defense, stood before Edu, and beat the goalkeeper low.
As a result of the goal, the best minutes of UD Lanzarote were seen on the field. In the 74th minute, the same play would be repeated, although on this occasion with different protagonists. Javi Betancort enabled Jotha, who was left alone against Edu, and the midfielder was unable to beat the goalkeeper.
Alcobendas Sport turned to the goal of UD Lanzarote in the final minutes of the match. Desperately, the Madrid team looked for the goal that would force extra time, and UD Lanzarote defended with order. The team trained by Fabián Rivero tried to counterattack and sought to keep the ball as far away from their goal as possible.
They were minutes of suffering for UD Lanzarote, not because of the dominance of Alcobendas but because of the uncertainty of the score. A shot from Dani Martínez from inside the area was the last chance for Alcobendas, with the ball going over the crossbar defended by Ruymán.
Narrow victory for UD Lanzarote against Alcobendas Sport. A victory that allows UD Lanzarote to qualify for the second round of the Copa del Rey. A second round that will be played next week and SD Eibar will be the rival of the red and yellows. An eliminatory that will have to be played in Basque territory.
