On December 21st, they sowed storms, gaining power with the votes of two councilors who had confessed to the judge to having taken bribes left and right, and now they are reaping storms. That is the situation in which the government group of Arrecife currently finds itself, which has not even managed to give the city what it promised in exchange for the sad spectacle that this motion of censure was: stability.

After coming to power, they maintained a tug-of-war for several weeks with Ubaldo Becerra and José Miguel Rodríguez, until they finally achieved their resignation. And once their objective was achieved, these councilors were hindering the government group and their own party. And it is not known how or why, they finally managed to get them to resign from their position on January 15. Until that moment, the mayor had not convened plenary sessions in the capital, because his majority was based on those two accused councilors, who had just been released from prison, and who made shocking confessions before the judge about the peculiar businesses they had done from their public office.

After that date, a period of respite arrived, but the relative calm has lasted little. And it is that no matter how much Cándido Reguera says that he has no reason to "distrust" the councilors of the PIL, Operation "Jable" left the detention of two other members of that party. Of two other members of his government group.

And after that, both the PIL and the PP forgot about the banner of the presumption of innocence that they brandished before signing the motion of censure, and rushed to withdraw Antonio Machín and Luisa Blanco from their areas of government and their salary as released councilors, and even announced Machín's resignation. The pulse was starting again although, in this case, they are "losing" for the moment. And the worst thing is not what they lose, but what the city of Arrecife loses, which does not deserve even remotely the shameful legislature it is suffering.

Despite everything, the mayor continues to assure that he has not lost the majority. That is, does he have a councilor in provisional prison and another on bail, both accused of taking bribes, to continue governing? Whatever the answer, it is disheartening. Because the one who has it in his hands is neither the PP, nor the PNL. Not even the PIL. The future of the Arrecife City Council once again depends on two councilors who have been arrested in the "Unión" case, and charged with very serious crimes.

And in the face of this panorama, the PP has had no choice but to ask Coalición Canaria for oxygen, which in Arrecife decided to stay out of this pact. That is, they did not participate in the sowing of storms, and yet they want them to help calm the storms.

But after days in which the island leadership of the party and its president, Jesús Machín, had avoided publicly pronouncing on this possibility, finally the local committee of CC agreed this week to continue as until now, that is, in the opposition.

Even, a few hours before adopting this decision, the councilors of Coalición Canaria in Arrecife joined those of the PSOE to request the holding of an extraordinary plenary session. Thus, the moment that the government group was trying to avoid, which once again resorts to delaying the convocation of an ordinary plenary session, cannot continue to be postponed. In fact, Reguera has already set that extraordinary session requested by the opposition for June 7.

That is the deadline they have to clarify what the current situation of the government group is. The PIL, to pressure or "convince" Machín and Luisa Blanco, who are now also internally asked to resign. The resignation that they do not demand, for example, from the councilor of the Cabildo María José Docal, who was arrested in the same operation, nor did they ever ask Dimas Martín, when he even took his public office to the Tahíche penitentiary. And it seems that this party, the same one that vetoes the media that do not cheer on corruption, the same one that asks that no parallel trials be held, has already issued its own sentences on some of its colleagues. At least, on those who are uncomfortable.

And in this time, the government group will also have to digest that it is going to attend a plenary session between the not very encouraging disyuntiva of what is the lesser evil: whether to remain in a minority before the opposition, in case Luisa Blanco decides not to support them or not attend the plenary session, after having been left composed and without salary; or to get her to vote with them and show that a councilor on bail has become the key piece for them to continue governing
