The employment data of the last months make us look to the future with more optimism and hope. The month of July closed with 197,841 fewer unemployed in Spain, 20,374 in the Canary Islands and 2,503 in Lanzarote, a sign that the economic recovery is moving in the right direction on the island thanks to. The great rate of vaccination is enabling a large increase in the arrival of tourists to the island. Dozens of flights arrive on the island every day giving a break to tourism and companies, which are gradually recovering workers from the ERTE or hiring new people.
Specifically, in Arrecife the figure has been reduced by 1,215 people, the largest drop since the pandemic began. Of course the news is good, but we must also remain cautious and recognize that we still have a lot of work to do to recover the levels prior to this health crisis, so it is time to be cautious with the situation because there are still many citizens who are having a bad time.
However, the prospects for the future are good. With the very close arrival of European funds, the economic injection that our country will receive - and not thanks to those who boast of being patriots and tried to torpedo negotiations with the European Union - will translate into more public investment and job creation to alleviate the effects of this crisis in the most punished sectors, companies and households. To begin with, in Lanzarote and the Canary Islands we are already beginning to notice the reactivation in tourism, which has suffered a severe blow during this year and a half.
It is up to us to apologize for all those mistakes that we may have made during the management of the pandemic. But, step by step, we will recover our battered economy and face the future with guarantees. Everything will be improvable, and, with successes and mistakes, we will not be wrong.
