The past Christmas holidays and the beginning of this 2021 have left Lanzarote in one of the worst health scenarios we could have imagined. The Dr. José Molina Orosa General Hospital is beginning to enable other floors and ICU beds for the incessant trickle of Covid patients. Almost a month after the aforementioned celebrations, the island has almost a thousand active cases.
Lanzarote is going through the worst wave of Covid since the pandemic began. Both municipal workers and our neighbors are suffering the consequences. Businesses with uncertain futures and an atmosphere of concern invade every corner of the capital. However, despite all this, I am completely sure that we will overcome this situation and together we will move forward.
As we have already demonstrated on other occasions, in the worst moments, we must join all our forces, act with responsibility and solidarity to reverse this situation as soon as possible. Because there is no stronger or more solid bond than a people united by a common cause. Our actions will have an impact on the people who are by our side. If we take care of ourselves, we will be doing it with our family, friends and neighbors.
At a time like this, so worrying, I want to send a message of encouragement to all municipal workers so that we do not stop working with that spirit to improve the lives of our citizens, taking all necessary precautions. Soon we will be able to return to our daily activity in the Consistory.
I ask the neighbors who reside in each of the city's neighborhoods to take care of themselves and the people around them. Now more than ever we need the strength and solidarity that characterize all our neighborhoods. From public institutions we must offer more mechanisms to alleviate the economic and social effects of this health crisis, and we will do so. Let's be united, because together we will move forward.
