We have heard him say many times "that he fulfilled his word and his commitments above all else." How quickly the rooster forgets when he was a chick. How little time it takes for a man of his word to break it and fail to comply with his promises once he has achieved his goal.
If the given word still meant something, if fulfilling what was promised was still a matter of honor, now the new breed of politicians has left it in the gutter. And with it, breaking their word, they have finished off the noble sense that remained of politics and the trust that citizens had in those who dedicate themselves to it.
We live in confusing and value-less times. We are not discovering anything new. But there were still remnants and people (there are still some, although fewer) to admire and trust, who could serve as an example to new generations. Unfortunately, young people are discovering how, in this world, it is the cheaters and liars who triumph and that the value of a vote is more important than keeping promises or being honest.
Respecting the given word is for old people and is part of that illusion that has become a utopia. It is no longer a guarantee of anything, and if in politics, the word is not valid as a guarantor, politics goes to waste. It will only make sense for the cheaters and freeloaders who vegetate from it and with whom they will try to scam unsuspecting citizens who still believe in the virtue of the committed word.
What is promised, for old people like me, is still a debt. Before it was like going to mass (what was promised), and, consequently, promises are not changed no matter how changeable the circumstances may be. Even so, there will be those who justify each and every one of the actions of their idolized leaders, even if they are petty and lead all of humanity to misery, and it is that, the simplicity of political voters says that if you are for one, you must necessarily hate the other or the other. We have reached such a degree of mediocrity that we have become accustomed to accepting the lies and non-compliance of politicians as the natural state of things, when, in reality, we have been scammed.
The most serious problem lies in the fact that if we can no longer trust those who lead us because they break their word and change the meaning of their promises when it suits them, who or what are we going to cling to when we are in the gutter. It is understood that the ruler is there to get us out of trouble and not to send us to destitution or plunge us into misfortune.
We no longer respect them. We don't trust them because they are no longer an example. They have put too much distance between their privileged political life and the harsh social reality. You just have to open your eyes to see and not believe.
