Every year a procedure is opened, clothed in legality, for the selection of principals of educational centers. After this process, we usually find principals who are not prepared to perform this position of such responsibility and become authentic 'puppets' of the Ministry of Education.
Of course, there are principals who are characterized by their vocation of public service, but there are others who occupy the chair of the corresponding office with a different spirit, such as climbing steps or thriving. Among these we find those who intend to make the educational center an authentic 'fiefdom' in which they do as they please, with the complicit silence often of the Ministry itself.
In that 'fiefdom' dissonant voices are not allowed and, if they occur, a hostile environment is generated towards the employee who diverges from the directive group with threats, shouts, humiliations, imposition of tasks that do not correspond to him, etc., attitudes that have nothing to do with what a professional management team with a vocation for service should be.
It is common to find in the directives people who get the position to their heads and believe they have the right to trample on those around them and the right to do as they please. These are not the principals that public schools need.
A good principal should never use the position to thrive or boast, but to serve society with professionalism, transparency and vocation of service. Let us not forget that principals are public servants.
