José Brito and his absurd eagerness for protagonism

June 24 2016 (08:48 WEST)

"Oswaldo Betancort, despite trying to act like a man of dialogue and consensus, shows his authoritarian streak." José Brito.

?For some time now, always close to elections, the socialist party has been using the easy refrain that this writer is a dictator. In his latest statements this week, this gentleman alludes to the fact that I show "the authoritarian streak"...

?I have to be grateful that he at least recognizes in his statements that he "tries to act like a man of dialogue and consensus," quite a compliment to me.

?Mr. José Brito, I don't think you can understand what it means to be the mayor of a town like Teguise, firstly because you don't know the uniqueness of this town and each of its payments. There are people, including you, who do not know the difference between authority, respect, and totalitarianism.

To act as mayor and try to be fair, we have to add wills, and that is the lighthouse that guides our action. It won't always rain to everyone's liking, it's impossible, but as you well reflect in your headline, we must bet on dialogue and consensus, tools without which we would not have achieved, much to your regret, the government majority that the people of Teguise entrusted to us.

However, from humility, I tell you that I think both your presence in the municipality and that of the rest of the opposition parties are convenient since, among all of us, building with solid arguments and leaving aside the personal and empty criticisms that only pursue the notoriety that the polls did not give you, and carrying out a serious opposition work based on improving the quality of life of our neighbors, I assure you, as I have done on previous occasions, that each and every one of them will be implemented by this government group.

Another thing is to take advantage of any circumstance of disagreement between any neighbor with this city council, to, before analyzing the real situation, use the argument against it as an element of wear and tear against me. I kindly suggest that before starting your senseless little wars, you inform yourself and listen to both sides, to then take the path you deem necessary, only out of responsibility, in addition to the dialogue and consensus that you demand in any leader of any kind.

From what I see and your comments denote, my opinion is that you are on the opposite side, you want above all to be mayor of Teguise, an objective that not everyone has, I applaud it, but I think that the ways you express and that absurd desire for protagonism is playing against you, using tactics of old politics, wear and tear for the sake of wear and tear.

I want to take this opportunity to remind you that we are still waiting for the necessary permits to be able to inaugurate the house of culture of La Villa, a meeting point of capital importance for the development of this town at all levels. My only advice is that you get to work and use your time profitably for the town of Teguise.

Oswaldo Betancort, Mayor of Teguise
