I owe myself to Lanzarote. I was born in this land, I carry it in my entrails, I enjoy it, I feel it, it hurts me. I, for Lanzarote, never give up. For her I fight to the end, I confront those who do not listen to her, those who do not pay the attention she deserves, those who ignore her. I, for my island, do not contemplate stepping aside, I refuse to stay on the sidelines.
I still think the same as I thought half a year ago, when December 20 was approaching: Lanzarote needs to have a voice in Madrid and will only get it if the Canarian Coalition achieves representation in the Courts. That is why I want to occupy my seat in the Senate: to demand that the numerous demands of my island be met, to speak until I am hoarse for those Lanzarote residents who are not heard.
When it comes to fighting for Lanzarote, I do not know discouragement. I don't know what tiredness is. Day after day, I perform my numerous functions as mayor of Haría: I work hard to offer more and better services, to clean up its streets, to increase its educational, health and leisure spaces. I meet with the neighbors, listen to their concerns, I worry about their well-being.
But I can't help but look beyond my beautiful municipality. I observe the rest of the island and reflect on what I can do to make its inhabitants happier, to increase their quality of life. That was my main motivation as Minister of Social Services of the Cabildo. It was then that I established the priority of attending to those who have more needs so that equality reigns among the inhabitants of my land, regardless of their economic income, their past, their circumstances, their diseases, their mistakes. Everyone deserves to live the best possible life, to be accompanied, to receive the treatment they need, to obtain the education they need, to enjoy a second chance. For all this I fought together with a great team of dedicated professionals. And together we managed to place Lanzarote at the forefront of social services in the eight Canary Islands.
This is what I want to continue doing: not only imagine a better Lanzarote, but achieve it, no matter the effort it takes. I know that what I propose is not easy, but I also know that I am not alone: I represent thousands of Lanzarote residents who are also convinced that we have a lot to say in Madrid, who know that there are still too many things to demand. Thousands of Lanzarote residents who are aware that only a nationalist party free from the chains that silence state formations and that only has the Canary Islands in mind will be able to ensure that we are respected.
The second elections are approaching in just six months. I understand the disenchantment, the citizen weariness, but this is compensated by the desire of those of us who want to fight for our rights, for what corresponds to us, for the interests of all. We want to spread our strength, we want to demonstrate that for us the illusion remains intact, that we remain convinced that the Canarian Coalition is the only party that can be chosen if we want the islands to have a real presence in Madrid. Tiredness does not affect us. I, for Lanzarote, never give up.
