The mayor, Óscar Noda, has confirmed this Friday the inclusion of Yaiza in Plan 20,000 promoted by the Government of the Canary Islands, through the Canarian Housing Institute, which specifies for the southern municipality the construction of 226 social homes for the protected rental market. "The City Council had already made the land available to the Government, and in the next Plenary Session we will approve the free transfer of a plot in Montaña Roja of 42,594 square meters, in Playa Blanca, with the aim of helping to alleviate the imbalances in the rental market and the demand of our neighbors, a commitment of the municipal government that I preside over,” said Óscar Noda.

The mayor visited the plot subject to the project together with the Councilor for Housing, Ángel Domínguez, and the Councilor for Urban Planning, Jonatan Lemes, two municipal areas that he says have "worked closely on the initiative." Noda emphasizes that “it is very good news for Yaiza, which once again demonstrates the confidence of the supramunicipal administrations in this Institution, which is healthy, and the value that we always give to inter-administrative cooperation, whoever governs, which is why we were elected by the citizens.”

"We had been arguing that in Yaiza there was land for public housing and therefore we demanded political will and a financial sheet from the Autonomous Community to execute the projects, and they have finally listened to us," added the mayor.

For his part, Ángel Domínguez, considers that "although we are now going through an economic slump due to the fall in the tourism sector and job losses, it is no secret to anyone that there is a high demand for rental housing, so this new promotion will meet the needs of many families."

Last December, the City Council already approved in Plenary Session the incorporation of two plots, one located in Montaña Roja, on Japón street, and another next to the Local Clinic of Playa Blanca, in the inventory of assets and rights belonging to the Administration as a prior step to be able to transfer this land of municipal ownership to the Government of the Canary Islands for the construction of public housing and for the expansion of the Playa Blanca Health Center, another of the municipal demands.
