The Yaiza City Council is tendering the service of control, collection and/or shelter for abandoned or lost dogs in the municipality, which will guarantee the continuous provision of an essential service of animal protection, sanitary welfare and citizen security. The contract has a base bidding budget of 380,110.11 euros, IGIC included, and interested companies may submit their offers until next July 20, at 2:30 p.m., through the Public Sector Contracting Platform.

Yaiza thus takes a new decisive step in its commitment to animal protection and welfare. The southern mayor emphasizes that “it is about guaranteeing a professional and permanent service that allows acting quickly in situations of abandonment or loss of animals, while reinforcing municipal policies of animal welfare, responsible adoption and citizen awareness.”

The contract will have an initial duration of two years, with the possibility of extension up to a maximum of four years.

The service includes the collection of abandoned, lost, helpless or confiscated dogs anywhere in the municipality, including those cases that require joint intervention with the Local Police or security forces and bodies. The awarded company must guarantee availability 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, providing priority attention to emergency situations such as injured animals, sick animals, puppies, cases of animal abuse, presence of animals on roads or potentially dangerous dogs.

The Councilor for Animal Protection, Águeda Cedrés, explains that “the contract incorporates comprehensive care for collected dogs, from their location and transfer to veterinary assistance, identification, shelter and eventual adoption, always under criteria of animal protection and respect for current regulations.”

Obligations

Among the obligations included in the contract is the transfer of animals in specially adapted vehicles and in conditions that guarantee their welfare, also establishing a maximum time of one hour between collection and their arrival at the shelter.

The service also includes the custody and maintenance of the animals in the municipal animal protection facilities, where they must receive adequate accommodation, food, daily walks, veterinary care, and all necessary hygienic-sanitary treatments. The specifications also require deworming, vaccinations, health checks, laboratory tests, and sterilizations, as well as the implantation of microchips and registration in the corresponding registries when appropriate.

The awarded company must have specialized personnel, veterinary services, and sufficient material resources to guarantee adequate care for the animals, including emergency actions, hospitalization, or surgical interventions when necessary.

Another fundamental aspect of the contract is the promotion of adoptions. To this end, the awarded entity will be obliged to carry out dissemination and promotion actions for the sheltered animals through social networks and specialized platforms, facilitating responsible adoption processes and subsequent follow-up of the animals delivered to new families.

The tender also includes the management of carcasses of dogs found on public roads and collaboration with the Department of Animal Protection in citizen awareness campaigns on responsible pet ownership, prevention of abandonment, and promotion of identification through microchips.

The City Council reminds that all documentation of the file can be consulted through the municipal contractor profile and the State Contracting Platform.
