The Regulatory Council of the Designation of Origin Lanzarote Wines celebrates with great pride the new successes achieved by island viticulture on the international stage. In the recent edition of the Decanter World Wine Awards (DWWA 2026), held in London, "the island's wines have once again demonstrated their uniqueness and very high quality in the largest and most influential wine competition in the world".
On this occasion, the Lanzarote company Bodegas Vega de Yuco has been the great protagonist by placing two of its most exclusive references in the global viticultural elite awards, after a rigorous blind tasting carried out by a panel of more than 200 international experts, including dozens of Masters of Wine.
The great milestone of the island delegation has been achieved by the ‘Princesa Gara’ (2022), a single-varietal volcanic Malvasia aged on its lees, which has won a demanding Silver Medal. The judges have enthusiastically valued the typicity, vibrant acidity, and deep mineral complexity of this white wine, which perfectly embodies the essence of the ash landscape and the trade winds that define our vineyard.
Likewise, the winery's sparkling wine, the Brut Nature ‘Princesa Fayna’ (2019), has obtained a well-deserved Bronze Medal. This international recognition rewards the winery's meticulous work in traditional long-aging sparkling wine methods, positioning Lanzarote's productions in an increasingly competitive and sophisticated market segment.
The Regulatory Council emphasizes that these medals at the DWWA 2026 not only reward the effort of Bodegas Vega de Yuco, but also represent a boost for the entire sector on the island. "Competing with more than 16,000 references from around the planet and returning with such significant medals demonstrates that Lanzarote's heroic viticulture is synonymous with exceptional quality and an absolutely unique character in the world," declare the president of the institution.
These awards add to the solid track record of recognitions that wines with the Lanzarote Designation of Origin continue to accumulate year after year, consolidating the island's brand as a benchmark of excellence, craftsmanship, and sustainability on the international oenological scene.
