The mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, and the first deputy mayor, Ángel Domínguez, conveyed to the representation of the socialist parliamentary group of the Regional Chamber that visited the City Council this Thursday, formed by the deputies Lucía Tejera and Pedro Viera, a whole battery of municipal demands so that in turn they are defended with the initiatives that are needed in Parliament before the Government of the Canary Islands, presided over by the socialist Ángel Torres.
According to the Consistory, the completion of works on two "strategic" projects for Yaiza, such as the expansion of the port of Playa Blanca and the construction of the secondary school in the same town, marked part of the extensive agenda of the meeting.
Regarding the CEO of Playa Blanca, which is being built on a 12,000 square meter plot of land ceded by the City Council, it is stated that "it is delayed, because the regional forecast when the works began in October 2017 pointed to its completion in the summer of this 2019."
In this regard, the Consistory points out that, once this center is launched, "students who finish primary school studies at CEIP Playa Blanca will be able to continue their ESO studies at the new CEO without having to travel to the IES located on the border with the municipality of Tías" and that, in addition, "the CEO will alleviate the burden of student population that CEIP Playa Blanca has".
The City Council also informed the socialist parliamentary group of other "urgent commitments" of the Autonomous Community in educational matters such as the removal of barracks in the schools of Yaiza, Playa Blanca and the IES Yaiza, construction of new classrooms and the roofing of the CEIP Yaiza court, as well as the complete change of the carpentry of this same center.
Port of Playa Blanca and actions in health
With respect to the port of Playa Blanca, the City Council hopes that it will be operational, at the latest, in November 2021. The works are financed by the European Union no less than 85 percent, so the City Council of Yaiza states that the Autonomous Community must be accountable to Europe on the state of execution to avoid losing annuities. In this regard, the Consistory continues to demand monitoring and compliance with deadlines.
Another of the "great concerns" expressed by the City Council of Yaiza is public health. In this sense, the Consistory City Council emphasized to the socialist parliamentary group the need to accelerate the expansion works of the Yaiza Health Center and to bring "to fruition and in the shortest possible time" the projects to equip the hemodynamics and radiotherapy units for the reference hospital Doctor Molina Orosa.
Óscar Noda and Ángel Domínguez also pleaded for initiatives to effectively reduce waiting lists for specialist consultations and surgeries "because, cases such as traumatology or rehabilitation, among others, are unbearable for the residents of Yaiza and for the citizens of the entire island".
A "lasting" solution to the accesses to Papagayo
The municipal representation also reviewed the "progress made" in the past legislature to give more value to the historic area of Rubicón by enabling an archaeological park in this area of Los Ajaches so that the site can be visited. The City Council has cleaned the wells and participates in the agreement by which the Canarian universities advance research work.
The arrangement "with a viable and lasting solution" of the roads that lead to Papagayo was another of the topics discussed at this Thursday's meeting. Yaiza defends that "the Natural Park and its beaches deserve the attention of the Cabildo and the autonomous region due to the size of its area and the road traffic that its accesses support, realities that make it almost impossible for the maintenance and conservation to be the sole responsibility of the municipality".
Road plan and sanitation of El Golfo
The southern Consistory also made a call for investment in the road plan to project and execute a bike lane and pedestrian path in the section that connects the town of Yaiza with Playa Blanca.
Likewise, Yaiza stated that it needs the support of supramunicipal institutions to conform and overcome all the procedures and execute the sanitation project of the coastal town of El Golfo, which already has funding, and the approval of the Regional Directorate of Coasts to launch the project to condition an area of the coast with two natural pools, also in El Golfo.
"Citizen unrest" over immigrant minors
Finally, the City Council recalled and exposed to the socialist parliamentary group the "citizen unrest" over the situation of the immigrant minors housed in two houses owned by the Cabildo located in the town of Yaiza, "which do not meet the conditions of habitability".
"In principle, it was warned that the accommodation was provisional but nine months have already passed and the provisional departure has become almost definitive", they point out from the Consistory of Yaiza, from where they understand that "a joint solution must be adopted that commits all institutions".
