The president of the Lanzarote Water Consortium, Oswaldo Betancort, and the entity's CEO, Domingo Cejas, visited this Tuesday the renovation works of the supply network that are being carried out in the towns of Soo and Tiagua, within the project promoted by the Consortium to improve the efficiency of the island's hydraulic system and reduce breakdowns affecting the supply.

The action has an award budget of 261,243 euros financed with the Water Consortium's own funds and is part of the hydraulic infrastructure renovation strategy that the entity is promoting after assuming direct management of the integral water cycle, once the process of resolving the contract with Canal Gestión Lanzarote has been completed.

“We are acting where for years residents have suffered cuts and breakdowns to build a more reliable, modern network prepared for the future. The citizens want solutions and that is exactly what we are doing: investing, renovating, and recovering fundamental infrastructures to guarantee a dignified service,” said Oswaldo Betancort during the visit.

The mayor of Teguise, Olivia Duque, thanked the execution of works that “respond to a historical demand from the residents of Soo and Tiagua, who for too long have suffered the consequences of the deterioration of obsolete networks”. Duque also highlighted the coordination between administrations to move forward with this action and pointed out that “when institutions work together and with a common goal, which is to improve the quality of life of the citizens, the results end up arriving. These works are an example of this and will contribute to notably improving the quality of the service that our residents receive”.

The works are being carried out in San Juan Evangelista street and adjacent streets in Soo, as well as in Fiquinineo and Achamán streets, in Tiagua. Among the planned actions, the renovation of domestic connections and several sections of the distribution network that show a high degree of deterioration and a significant history of breakdowns stands out.

In addition, in both towns, new transport pipelines will be installed to reinforce the operation of the network, separating transport and distribution functions to avoid supply interruptions when incidents occur in certain areas.

Domingo Cejas highlighted that “these works respond to a technical plan based on the real needs of the network. We are prioritizing those areas where problems have been most recurrent and where the renovation of infrastructures will have an immediate impact on the quality of the service received by the residents”.

Cejas also recalled that the Consortium is coordinating these actions with the town councils to take advantage of the planned resurfacing works in different municipalities, reducing inconvenience to citizens and optimizing public resources.

The project includes the installation of nearly two kilometers of new PVC pipes for drinking water, as well as the renovation of valves, manholes, and other hydraulic elements essential for improving the network's operability.

The works began on May 25 and have a execution period of three months. The Water Consortium insists that this action is part of the set of investments that are already being developed throughout the island to modernize hydraulic infrastructures that have decades of investment deficit and require continuous intervention to guarantee the present and future supply of Lanzarote and La Graciosa.
