Valerón confirms that the Canary Islands Government has not yet transferred the Repsol file to the councils of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura

Andrés Valerón, Minister of Industry, Energy and New Technologies of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, announced this Thursday that, although the Ministry of Industry transferred the Repsol-YPF file to the Canary Islands Government last spring, the regional Executive has not even sent it "unfortunately still" to the Cabildo of Fuerteventura or that of Lanzarote, the first institutions of the affected territories.

"From the Ministry the issue has not advanced too much, but from both councils we have to continue advancing in that transmission of information to the population of the two islands, to make them participants in what are the risks that could be run with this type of prospecting".

More possibilities

According to Valerón, with the new reorganization of the Government, "now we have more possibilities and we have made our intention to analyze the file with our technicians known to the President of the Government".

In any case, the Minister valued the new mood of the regional Executive, and asserted that the fact that the Government is already analyzing the file by itself "is already a great change with respect to the previous attitude, when they did not even let us peek to ask about the file", he said. "Now we can study it more deeply and, based on that, raise our complaints to the central Government," he added.

In December the activity of the joint commission resumes

Valerón, who made these statements at the end of the presentation of the Fuermetal 2005 fair at the headquarters of the island's Cabildos of Lanzarote, also announced that from next December it is planned to resume the activity of the joint commission created between institutions and economic and social agents of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura to fight against the oil platforms that the company Repsol-YPF plans to install 20 kilometers off the coast of both islands.

"I do not consider that the Cabildo of Lanzate has abandoned, what happens is that until its government was stabilized it did not make much sense to make promises or joint work. In Fuerteventura we have also slowed down our work because we want to position ourselves jointly with Lanzarote," he added.
