UGT in Lanzarote has lamented the dissolution of the Board of Trustees of the Hotel School and has considered this fact to be "a failure" of the different administrations, as well as the business sector. Despite this, it recognizes the "effort" made by the Teguise City Council in recent years to try to keep this center open.

The union has stated that "the repeated non-compliance" of the island's administrations, together with the "little interest shown by employers" to support training in the hotel sector, has ended up "delivering the coup de grâce" to the Hotel School of Lanzarote. "The disappearance of this institution demonstrates the political and business inability to commit to quality training in the hotel sector, an essential area for the development of the island's economy," said UGT.

Creation of a hotel-school

One of the examples of what they denounce, according to the union, is the "lack of homologation" of the qualifications issued by this Hotel School.

Now, given the lack of adequate infrastructure to provide "quality training" in the field of hospitality, UGT Lanzarote has called on the Government of the Canary Islands to create "a hotel school" on the island. This center should focus on the competitiveness of the island's tourism sector through "the training and professionalization of its human resources and its companies".

For the union, the high demand for trained professionals and the high number of tourists who visit Lanzarote each year "requires the establishment and development of a hotel school", under the same conditions as those already operating in the islands of Gran Canaria and Tenerife.
