The mayor of Tías, José Juan Cruz Saavedra, on behalf of his government group, formed by PSOE and Unidas Sí Podemos, asks the Government of the Canary Islands not to authorize the private installation of a photovoltaic plant of large dimensions in Mácher, which would involve an occupation of at least 28,721 square meters.
Cruz Saavedra regrets that the Ministry of Ecological Transition and Energy of the regional Executive has issued an order declaring “the general interest of the Magec I photovoltaic plant project of 2 MW, in Tías, Lanzarote, file ER 190074, in accordance with the provisions of article 6 bis of Law 11/1997, of December 2, regulating the Canary Islands Electricity Sector”.
The City Council of Tías issued a negative report in 2023 by which the license for the installation of the aforementioned photovoltaic plant was denied, planned to be developed on the plot located on the Camino de La Asomada to Las Vegas, Mácher, for not considering it “of public or social interest” and based on the foundations of the agreement of the Cabildo of Lanzarote adopted in 2022.
The Insular Government Council agreed, on August 23, 2022, “not to consider of public or social interest the action called `2MW photovoltaic installation for grid dumping`, municipal term of Tías, […] in accordance with the provisions of article 79 of Law 4/2017, of May 13, on Land and Protected Natural Spaces of the Canary Islands, as it does not comply with the criteria set in the Agreement of the Insular Council of March 25, 2022, specifically, with what is stipulated in the third criterion, admitting only photovoltaic installations aimed at self-consumption”.
More than 40 allegations
From the City Council of Tías, which held a meeting last November with the residents of Mácher to inform them of this private project, its total rejection of this installation is shown, since it would not have a positive or beneficial impact on citizens and would involve a considerable environmental impact.
In the process of processing this file, more than 40 allegations have been presented against the administrative authorization and declaration of public utility of the solar installation, mostly also expressing their total rejection due to the visual and environmental impact on the affected rural and agricultural environment.
