The works on Avenida de las Playas, in the section of Calle Marte (roundabout of the Hotel Jameos Playa) and the Carretera de las Playas, phase II, will begin on October 5. The Tías City Council has announced that on that day the relevant signage will be prepared, which will affect road traffic and pedestrians.

The project, whose contract was formalized this September, adheres to the II Modernization Plan of Puerto del Carmen and will eliminate architectural barriers in the area, expand the area for pedestrian use, renovate and improve gardening, provide shower and footbath services, solve the problem of surface water in times of rain and improve the bike lane.

According to the project, the execution of this phase of the work will allow the incorporation of a new surface for the use and enjoyment of pedestrians on the beachfront. The City Council has designed, while the works last, recommended routes for pedestrians on the side of the premises.

Likewise, the bicycle lane will have a width of 2.20 meters, paved with asphalt mix, and the maximum speed of the bicycle lane will be, for safety, 10 kilometers per hour, as established in other sections of the avenue.

In addition, the planned action to reverse the direction of the transverse slope of the pavement is highlighted. As the project indicates, surface water currently runs through the service road, accumulating in the lower part, at the entrance to the Shopping Center of the Hotel Jameos Playa. It is therefore necessary to reverse the elevation in the section between Calle Marte and the entrance to the Shopping Center, lowering the elevation of the promenade on the sea side.

Works awarded for more than 867,000 euros

Works will also be carried out on distribution pipes for irrigation water, drinking water, lighting and public services with their corresponding registers, giving continuity to the pipes executed in the first phase.

The section will be paved with cobblestones in the area for pedestrian traffic and asphalt pavement in the bicycle lane. Stone curbs will be placed as a finish to the pavement in the existing planters on the sea side.

These works, which have a subsidy from the Ministry of Tourism of the Government of the Canary Islands and whose execution period is estimated at three months, were awarded for an amount of 867,184.82 euros, taxes included. In turn, they will be complemented by another public lighting project for the area.
