The Tías Town Hall reports on the work meeting held last Tuesday, October 14, in the Parliament of the Canary Islands between the mayor, José Juan Cruz, and the Minister of Tourism of the Government of the Canary Islands, Jéssica de León.
During the meeting, the draft of the commemorative program for the 60th anniversary of Puerto del Carmen was presented, which will take place between October 2025 and October 2026.
The City Council requested financial support from the Government of the Canary Islands for a total of 16,070,490 euros, distributed in three blocks: 1,238,439 euros for events and activities, 1,870,000 euros for new works and infrastructures, and 12,962,051 euros for projects included in the Canary Islands Strategy for Island Tourist Infrastructures.
Mayor José Juan Cruz highlighted “the importance of having the support of the Government of the Canary Islands to make a reality of an anniversary that not only celebrates six decades of tourism history, but also projects Puerto del Carmen towards a more sustainable, modern, and competitive future.”
He added that "this program represents a historic opportunity to strengthen our image as an international destination and consolidate strategic projects that will benefit residents, businesses, and visitors."
The commemorative program includes more than 30 cultural, tourist, and social activities, among them the official presentation during International Tourism Day 2025, historical talks, a sustainable fashion show, gastronomic and musical festivals, and a grand closing concert in October 2026.
Likewise, the public-private collaboration projects and the infrastructure linked to the anniversary were addressed, such as the inauguration of the Ethnographic Interpretation Center, the new Tourism headquarters, and the actions already carried out with Next Generation funds and the III Plan for Modernization, Improvement and Increase of the Competitiveness of Puerto del Carmen.
