The Tías City Council has clarified the reason for the loss of the Blue Flag on Playa Grande this 2024. In a recent interview this Wednesday on Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero, the mayor José Juan Cruz, has revealed that the absence of this award is due to "the execution of a work without title", specifically, next to the Apartahotel Fariones.
"The real reason why the Association of Environmental and Consumer Education (Adeac) has not awarded its prize to Playa Grande or Playa Blanca this year is due to non-compliance with the Coasts Law with a sanctioning file initiated for having carried out works on an easement of transit and the DPMT without title", he said.
"In Playa Grande, the non-concession refers to the Coastal file with the Apartahotel Fariones," he pointed out. In addition, he expressed "his surprise at the decision, taking into account the improvements made in the area in the last year." "The hotel was remodeled and the promenade was opened to traffic and, it is now, when it is improved, when they tell us that there is a work without title", he stressed.
Cruz Saavedra explained that in that area some of the changes that must be carried out around Playa Grande are missing. "Finish the area between the promenade of the Apartahotel and that in the connection to the promenade of the hotel a wooden walkway is installed to finish said section," he added. In addition, "joining the avenue in the place where the kiosk was demolished" is another of the pending remodeling. Improvements that "are the responsibility of the general directorate of Coasts, this does not depend on the city council", he concluded.
From the Consistory he wanted to make it clear that "it has nothing to do" with the current state of the well-known beach. "Playa Grande is in excellent condition, both its waters and its sand and services", said the mayor of Tías. Cruz pointed out that the beaches of Puerto del Carmen "are in perfect condition and we can boast of the quality of our waters and the numerous services we provide, such as walkways, shade areas, accessible areas, hammocks and showers, among others".
In addition, the mayor wanted to emphasize to the citizens of Lanzarote that "there is no problem of discharges or infrastructures."
He also wanted to highlight the "maintenance of the other three blue flags with the same conditions". Recognitions after which it has been achieved that the award is granted in the "beaches of Pila de la Barrilla, Matagorda and Pocillos". So Tías is consolidated as "the municipality with the most Blue Flags in Lanzarote".
