The Yaiza Health Center will reopen its doors next Tuesday, after the completion of the expansion and new equipment work that has been carried out to improve the facilities.

The new center will serve a population of 2,549 health cards and will have a staff made up of eight professionals including health workers, orderlies and administrative staff. In addition, as announced by the Ministry of Health, the creation of a new Family Care Unit is planned, with a new family doctor and a nurse, "in order to adjust the quotas of the doctors of the Basic Health Zone and improve patient care."

"The opening of the center allows the incorporation of the services of midwife, case management nursing and Social Work, which are currently provided at the Local Clinic of Playa Blanca", they specify from the Ministry.

Due to the move to start up this new center, the space provisionally set up in the Uga Municipal Market, where patients from the Yaiza Health Center were treated during these works, will remain closed this Monday. Therefore, patients assigned to this center will be treated at the Local Clinic of Playa Blanca.

Renovated facilities

The renovation works have provided the center with a larger area, since the old police station is attached and has improved "the constructive quality of the facilities with the development and execution of an architecture and engineering proposal that provides energy efficiency to the building."

The new facilities, of 230 square meters, have two multipurpose offices, one of them with access to the street, a medical office and a nursing office, lobby and reception, as well as two rooms, an office, changing rooms, warehouses and services.

Regarding the improvement of energy efficiency, the center has a remote control system for electricity, air conditioning and fire protection installations that is managed by the maintenance service from the Doctor José Molina Orosa Hospital. Likewise, a photovoltaic installation has been carried out on the roof of the building to provide electrical energy.

In addition, the works have replaced the traditional roof with an inverted roof that prevents thermal transfer, the internal part of the walls has been covered to improve the insulation of the center and an exterior carpentry with double glazing and blinds has been placed for solar control.

The works of the new Primary Care infrastructure were awarded to the company Mantenimiento Marmape, for an amount of 366,083.85 euros (without IGIC). The construction process was affected by the suspension of work activities during the pandemic and, after receiving it, they state that "the Management teams have been immersed in the equipment and start-up process that concludes in these days."

The director of Primary Care of Lanzarote, Aniuska Sutil, celebrates the opening of the new facilities that will enable the increase of more than a thousand health cards in the Basic Health Zone of Yaiza with the readjustment of quotas, "which results in the quality of care provided to the population of southern Lanzarote."
