The Yaiza City Council has received proposals for the reorganization of the port of Playa Blanca from the architect Ben Van Berkel. "This urban action is integrated into the Tourism and Urban Development Plan of Yaiza, which is being prepared by Ben Van Berkel's team, in collaboration with the Spanish studio of Juan Palop," explained José Francisco Reyes, mayor of the municipality.

The project is integrated by a large park square at the entrances to the port, on an area of approximately 80,000 square meters, where the facilities of the Fishermen's Association and the esplanade of the port of Playa Blanca are currently located. Under this square the new facilities for the fishermen, the headquarters of the Municipal Sailing School and a large parking lot with capacity for about a thousand vehicles will be built.

The Yaiza City Council will announce the details of the urban action to the social agents of the municipality and the Island during the month of September. Ben Van Berkel, who was awarded the tender promoted by the City Council in 2005, will be at this presentation to explain the details of his proposal.

Recently, the architect and his collaborators held a meeting with the mayor of Yaiza, José Francisco Reyes, and the Councilor for Urban Planning, José Antonio Rodríguez.
