The President of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo, and the Island Councilor for Public Works, Alfredo Mendoza, visited this Thursday the improvement works on the road that connects Mozaga and El Peñón and confirmed that the works will be completed by February.
This project, awarded for an amount of 1,067,759.64 euros, is co-financed by the Cabildo and the Canary Islands Development Fund (FDCAN). The action aims to renovate a pavement that is more than 40 years old and has only undergone a renovation in a section of the complete 3.5 kilometers in length about 15 years ago, as well as install all the signage and safety elements necessary for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians.
The President of the Cabildo, María Dolores Corujo, expressed her satisfaction with the good pace of the work, which began on September 21, thus meeting the planned deadlines. "This has been a highly demanded project that solves the main problems presented by the road and that will allow its use with the safety and comfort required of a conventional road of this type and this traffic intensity," explains Corujo.
For his part, the Councilor for Public Works, Alfredo Mendoza, points out that with the good progress of the work, it is expected that the road will be open to users next month. "Around 9,000 tons of asphalt have had to be used due to the very poor condition of the pavement, in addition, 1,600 meters of stone wall have been built for the structural support of the road," Mendoza emphasizes.
"The works that remain to be executed in order to carry out the opening are the placement of barriers, reflectors and painting the road markings definitively," the councilor advanced.
