The conflict between the Arrecife City Council and the Works Council continues to grow and the union representatives have filed a complaint against the Consistory with the Canary Islands Labor Court, for alleged breaches of the agreement affecting workers in the municipal bus service.
"All we ask is that the Collective Agreement we have is also complied with, just like with any other worker. Our demands do not go beyond that", says José Marcial Cabrera, president of the Municipal Bus Works Council.
"We have been waiting for them to listen to us once and for all for years. The City Council has always told us that it would meet with us but time went by and they always gave us the runaround. Now we have made the decision to take it to the Canary Islands Labor Court to denounce the breach of the Collective Agreement," says Cabrera, who also points to the "lack of seriousness" of the different mayoralties that have taken place in the capital city, since according to the president of the Works Council, "no matter what political party was in the city council, at no time have we been given solutions".
And the Labor Agreement that affects the workers of the Municipal Bus service has been expired since December of last year. "We believe that it is time to apply the same treatment to bus drivers as to the rest, and until now no compensation was received for special days", says Cabrera.
Article 20 of the Collective Agreement regulates the special working days of workers and Article 11 establishes a daily rest of 30 minutes computable as effective work, a fact that was not being fulfilled to date according to the complaint of the works council.
