Playa Chica in Puerto del Carmen is inaugurating its new shower and footbath facilities this Easter Week, near the public toilet area. In recent weeks, workers from the Tías Town Hall, assigned to the Department of Roads and Works, under the direction of Councilor Antonio Betancort Ramos, have been carrying out the work to have these new services ready for bathers and divers.
On the morning of this Wednesday, the Councilor for Beaches of the Tías Town Hall, Nerea Santana, and the Councilor for Roads and Works, Antonio Betancort Ramos, have been checking the start-up of these new showers and footbaths mounted on a steel structure erected in an area near the toilets. Until now, this small cove, near the fishing village of La Tiñosa, only had footbaths, and from this Holy Thursday it will have two outdoor showers that have footbaths incorporated into their systems and a fresh water dispenser.
Playa Chica, on the coast of Puerto del Carmen, is a cove very frequented by divers who travel to Lanzarote to dive in its coastline where the so-called La Catedral is located, a chasm with a cave of enormous beauty for divers due to its volcanic origin. In addition, this beach is very frequented by the residents of La Tiñosa, a fishing village from where the main tourist area of Lanzarote emerged 50 years ago.
Plan for 20 new showers on the beaches of Puerto del Carmen
This opening in Playa Chica is part of the Plan of the Department of Beaches of the Tías Town Hall to provide 20 new showers on all the beaches of the Puerto del Carmen coastline. The first ones are already in service since this Semana Santana, and in these coming weeks the assembly work will continue by workers of the Town Hall, of the Department of Roads and Works, in the beaches of Barranquillo (area known as the beach of La Peñita), Playa de los Pocillos and Matagorda. In Playa Grande the new showers, 13 in this extensive beach, are contemplated within the project that is currently executed by the Cabildo of Lanzarote - at the request of the Town Hall of Tías within the plans of Municipal Cooperation - for the improvement of the accessibility in this demanded beach by the thousands of tourists who annually travel to Lanzarote.
All the beaches of Tías currently had footbath services that are being improved with the installation of these new showers demanded by the users of the beaches and the agents linked to the tourist sector.
The Government Group of Tías (PP and CC) has several projects underway for the modernization of the public spaces of Puerto del Carmen where the services and facilities in all the beaches are within its lines of action.
