The announcement of an indefinite strike by the workers in charge of garbage collection in the municipality of Tías, starting on December 6, would be extended to both schools and gardens in the municipality, according to the general secretary of UGT, César Reyes, "as the companies that comply with these services belong to the same owner who currently owes the workers two salaries".

César Reyes, explains that "we are facing a rather complicated situation on the part of the group of companies that includes the companies Salimpa, and Rinsa, which are in charge of cleaning the schools of Tías and maintaining the landscaping in the same municipality, respectively. They belong to the same owner, so this strike affects the entire group".

Faced with the announcement of this strike, which would leave garbage collection, school cleaning and garden maintenance uncovered, Reyes assures that "the mayor of the Tías City Council is positioned to try to find a solution as soon as possible because he is not willing to allow the situation that the company is going through to lead to a strike". Among the possibilities, even the rescue of the cleaning service would be considered, "as we are aware that the City Council will take any measure to avoid the possibility of a strike in these three services".

Arrecife without guaranteed minimum services

As for Arrecife, whose call for a cleaning strike in the eleven schools of the capital is for Wednesday, December 2, the story is very different. Apparently, as César Reyes assures, "there has been no contact from the company, what I can tell you is that due to the lack of dialogue with the company, not even this union, UGT, can be held responsible for ensuring that the minimum services are met".

The reason why this situation could be reached is that, "as of today, the company has not sent the union or the workers the list of workers who must comply with these minimum services, nor the rotations they must make as established by law". Therefore, they consider that "the company has remained silent and therefore we cannot guarantee the minimum services right now".

The capital's City Council does not intervene

Regarding the position of the City Council, there are also no indications that the council is taking measures to avoid the strike: "It is a strike that will begin the day after tomorrow and the City Council, as far as we know, is not going to take any measures until today".

"We have tried actively and passively throughout this weekend to have contact with the company and they have not even been able to prepare the list of workers who should comply with the minimum services". Therefore, if it is not remedied "today or tomorrow before noon, we will not be able to guarantee even the minimum services".
