The Social Inclusion Service of the Cabildo de Lanzarote has assisted a total of 226 people during the past year 2021, a resource dedicated to homeless people or those at risk of exclusion, which was created in 2020.
The president of the island executive, María Dolores Corujo, has explained that this resource focuses on the "coordination, supervision and allocation" of the 54 places available in the Cabildo in the different residences for homeless people.
Likewise, the Service is dedicated to the evaluation and intervention with people in situations of social exclusion, as well as coordination with other administrations, entities and professionals who work with this vulnerable population.
Unemployed person without aid or benefit
Of the 226 people attended last year, 139 received care in the different residential resources, while the intervention with the remaining was focused on advice and management by the social workers of the Social Inclusion Service.
On the other hand, of these 226 people, 162 were men and 64 were women.
The predominant age range was between 40 and 60 years old, which represents almost half of the people attended. 75% of the users are registered in Arrecife and, finally, the most common situation is that of an unemployed person who mostly does not receive aid or benefit.
350 people attended since 2020
The Social Inclusion Service began operating in 2020 in order to assist homeless people or those at risk of exclusion. Since the creation of this Service until today, 350 people have been attended individually and the necessary resources for these people have been opened for the first time in Lanzarote with the help of different entities such as Mararía, Emerlan, Cruz Roja and Flora Acoge.
This tool, as detailed by the Minister of Social Rights, Isabel Martín, "combines attention to personal needs, professional attention oriented to the development of individualized intervention plans and personalized, comprehensive and quality care through the development of itineraries for labor and social incorporation."
