The Security, Emergency, Rescue, Prevention and Fire Extinction Consortium of the Cabildo de Lanzarote already has the project and feasibility report for the construction of a heliport in the vicinity of its headquarters. The construction of the heliport has a cost of 70,000 euros, an amount contemplated in the budgets of the Cabildo de Lanzarote for the Consortium and, according to the institution, "now it is only pending the building permit from the Arrecife City Council".
From the Security and Emergency Consortium they affirm that "this service is an island need, because on the island there are several heliports, but they do not have security, they are landing places". "In Lanzarote, for reasons of prevention or technical reasons, the helicopter must often stay overnight on the Island and there is no safe place for the device, as well as facilities to accommodate the pilots," they indicate from the Consortium, from where they point out that its headquarters "meets all these requirements, is in the capital and also next to the Doctor Molina Orosa General Hospital, which is the public institution that most demands this service for the transfer of patients".
The work will basically consist "in the adaptation of the heliport platform, as well as the integration within the operation and operability of the Security and Emergency Consortium", according to the Consortium, which explains that the land, located on one side of its headquarters, "will have to be intervened, because it presents a deep step of around one meter fifty and it has to be converted into a flat surface". "The base is compacted and ready to carry out the contribution of material in order to carry out the landfill where the heliport will be located," he adds.
A total area of 1,000 square meters
In the area planned for the location of the heliport, an access will be created where two places will be enabled for ambulances or security equipment to wait. This space will have a street four meters wide that will join the street that surrounds the Fire Station building.
The heliport platform consisting of a square of 20 meters on each side within which a concrete surface will be located will be located on the embankment. In this area and surroundings, the security zone will be created.
The space will be five meters surrounding the take-off or landing area throughout its perimeter. It has been planned to enable it with a concrete grout in order to prevent any detachment caused by the currents generated by the helicopter. The color of the platform will be blue, the white health cross and the inner H in red.
In order to avoid the intrusion of people or animals inside the heliport facilities and prevent theft or deterioration thereof, a perimeter fence will be established together with an access door to the site. It will have a total area of about 1,000 square meters that includes access, parking, platform and security perimeter. The project also includes lighting so that the heliport can be operational at night.
