Coinciding with the celebration on the island of the Interterritorial Sports Conference during the last three days, the popular people of Lanzarote have held a meeting with the Secretary of State for Sports, José Ramón Lete. During the meeting, Lete explained "some of the lines of work in which the Government is focusing, such as the Strategic Plan in favor of physical activity and against sedentary lifestyles, which aims to curb the advance of childhood obesity and health problems derived from an unhealthy diet."

Lete stressed that just as it is part of the school curriculum, "Sport should be part of the vital curriculum of each person" because, he warned, childhood obesity has multiplied by 10 in the last thirty years.

The Secretary of State for Sport announced that "at the Interterritorial Conference, in which all the Autonomous Communities have participated, the extension of the school curriculum to 3 days of Sport per week has been put on the table."

Lete, a former basketball player, acknowledged the "important work carried out by the sports fabric in the islands and the commitment being made to Sport in the Canary Islands after the recovery of subsidies for sports competitions in the peninsula, which will be resolved in the coming days."

After acknowledging that "Sport is much more than competitions and medals, he valued the exceptional conditions that our country has for sports tourism, highlighting that almost 10 million of the 82 million who visited Spain in 2017 did so to watch or practice sports. A line in which, he stressed, Lanzarote is also managing to take off."

The island president of the Popular Party, Astrid Pérez, valued "satisfactorily the meeting that allowed to exchange opinions on sports activity, aid and the role of the different federations. Pérez also thanked José Ramón Lete for the good disposition he shows every time he visits the island."
