The Cabildo of Lanzarote, presided over by Oswaldo Betancort, has closed the successful project of awareness and education in animal welfare, Canine civism, which, throughout the 2024-2025 school year, has been developed in the Infant and Primary education centers of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, in collaboration with the association Dejando Huella.

For more than seven months, weekly workshops have been given in the classrooms of early childhood education and from 1st to 4th grade of primary school, in a pioneering educational experience that has reached thousands of schoolchildren.

This initiative, led by the canine guide Eli and her intervention dog Rofe, has as its main objective to promote a culture of respect, empathy and responsibility towards animals.

The program has had a remarkable involvement on the part of the government group of the Cabildo, especially the councilors Aroa Revelo and Ascensión Toledo, who have actively participated in the school days and have publicly thanked Dejando Huella for their involvement, as well as the enthusiasm of the participating educational centers.

Thanks to the accompaniment of Rofe, the intervention dog, the workshops have offered a unique emotional dimension, generating meaningful learning experiences that favor the development of empathic attitudes from an early age.

The Canine civism project, with more than seven weekly interventions sustained throughout its development, says goodbye this year having established itself as a transformative educational tool.
