The President of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, held a new working meeting this Monday with the team from the Economic Promotion area that is finalizing the details of the new edition of the Saborea Lanzarote Festival, which returns to Teguise with more strength than ever on the weekend of November 25 and 26.

“We are very excited and eager to present to the public the program of the X Edition of the Lanzarote Food and Wine Festival, the largest gastronomic event in the Canary Islands”, said Betancort at the end of the organizational session, after which he announced that Saborea Lanzarote will be presented on the island of Tenerife on November 7, and in Lanzarote, on November 14.

“We are working with all the agents involved so that on the last weekend of November, lovers of good Canarian cuisine and good wines will once again immerse themselves in the roots of Lanzarote, savor its essence, and discover the gastronomic culture that supports this unique ecosystem that values the Saborea Lanzarote Food and Wine Festival, and that they also do so from the heart of the Historic Site of the Villa”, said the President of the Cabildo.

As Councilor for Economic Promotion, as well as head of Agriculture and Livestock, Oswaldo Betancort has been committed from the first minute of this new mandate to the primary and gastronomic sector of the island of Lanzarote and La Graciosa with the aim of re-launching the Saborea Lanzarote brand as the axis for the development of the cooperation strategy and policies that improve the economic competitiveness of the Island.

“Saborea Lanzarote is a benchmark and example of good gastronomic know-how, inside and outside the island”, reiterates Betancort, admiring “the good health and potential of a model with a lot of projection and with sufficient resources to meet the demands of professionals, with which we are planning a new Saborea in Teguise and a 2024 of authentic economic take-off with the clear objective that all that circular economy generated by Saborea Lanzarote reverts to the population of Lanzarote, in families, self-employed and SMEs, through the generation of wealth and employment”, said Betancort.

How and why Saborea Lanzarote was born

Saborea Lanzarote was born in 2010 and is part of Saborea España, a product club sponsored by Turespaña, which includes tourist destinations with gastronomic appeal and of which we are members of its Executive Committee. It was born as a management platform for the gastronomic sector that integrates all the economic and social agents that make up the value chain of wine and gastronomic tourism; from restaurants or agricultural production, to the creation of agri-food products, through the tourist management of farms or the specialization of hotels.

Its objectives include turning the island into a wine and gastronomic tourism destination supported by the primary sector; creator of landscapes and protector of the environment; promoting sustainable and cultural tourism; raising awareness among residents and tourists about gastronomic culture in its broadest sense; educating from the base of a healthy diet based on local products; working on the concept of “gastronomic culture”; authentic and original linked to the territory; boosting the economic activity of the island through the generation of synergies between the different productive sectors, as well as the creation of a powerful umbrella brand that identifies all the effort that is made in this sector, which positions the island as a different destination with gastronomy as a claim.
