The PSOE has once again obtained an overwhelming victory in this Sunday's elections in Lanzarote, managing to revalidate the Senate seat for Manuel Fajardo and once again place Ariagona González as a deputy in Congress. "We are the best," said the island secretary of the PSOE, María Dolores Corujo, who described her party's results on the island as "magnificent." The socialists have obtained more than 15,000 votes in both chambers, surpassing the second force, which was the PP, by 6,500 votes in Congress and nearly 5,500 in the Senate.

Likewise, Corujo has expressed her conviction that "Pedro Sánchez, without a doubt, will once again be the next president of the Government of our country." "A president who has clearly opted for a progressive government, for a government that continues to defend rights and freedoms in our country," added the general secretary of the PSOE, who thanked "the trust placed" in the PSOE. "I am convinced that we will not disappoint at all," she said.

"I am very grateful to all the men and women of La Graciosa who have once again placed their trust in me to represent them in the Senate in what I hope will be a legislature," said Manuel Fajardo, after revalidating his position as senator for Lanzarote.

With 99.19% counted, the socialist had obtained 31% of the support, or what is the same, 15,188 votes, compared to the 9,739 (15.65%) achieved by the PP, which, with Joel Delgado as a candidate, has positioned itself as the second force. The CC candidate, Samuel Martín, obtained 7,666 votes (15.65%) of the support, while the Senate candidate of Unidas Podemos, Jorge Peñas, obtained 6,451 votes (13.17%) and the Vox candidate, Javier Román Vas, reached 4,839 votes (9.88%).

Manuel Fajardo: "We have to start working now"

"I also thank my opponents for having run a fairly clean campaign," highlighted Manuel Fajardo, who also had words of gratitude for the party's members. "If it weren't for them, the PSOE would neither have 142 years of history nor would it have had the results it has had today," he pointed out.

Now, he has indicated that the first thing will be to "take office on December 3 if the date does not change" and, later, "to form Canarian groups" within the Senate to carry out "all the initiatives that have been explained during these days."

Likewise, the senator for Lanzarote has stated that he hopes that "the sense of State and responsibility will prevail" to form a new Government in Spain. "And if I were Casado, I would think very carefully about what I could do in the investiture session that will take place in the month of December because it is already known that the blockade leads to another political force having more than doubled its votes. And that political force does not dispute our votes," he indicated in relation to the growth experienced by Vox, which has achieved 52 deputies in Congress and has become the third force in Spain.

"This country cannot continue with a prorogued budget from 2018 and has to face a series of vicissitudes that we have very close, which have to do with the economic slowdown and with other coexistence challenges that we have such as that of Catalonia, which is not over. These are elections that, well, we are celebrating today, but tomorrow we have to start working now," he concluded.

Ariagona González: "We can only give thanks"

"We are very happy and grateful because we are once again the largest political force in Spain, we have obtained the majority support of the citizens, and in Lanzarote we have improved our results, so we can only thank all those who have once again trusted the PSOE," said Ariagona González, after also revalidating her position as a deputy in Congress, a position that she has stated that "in principle" she will continue to combine with that of councilor in the Cabildo.

In Lanzarote, the socialists have obtained 15,211 votes (30.08%) in the Lower House, 6,535 more than the PP, which has achieved 8,676 (17.16%). The third most voted force on the island to Congress has been Podemos with 7,958 votes (15.74%), followed by NC-CC with 6,870 votes (13.59%) and Vox, which has obtained 6,745 votes (13.34%). Ciudadanos and Más País-Equo have obtained less support, which, in Lanzarote, have obtained 2,488 and 949 votes respectively, or what is the same, 1.88% and 1.34% of the support.

"From now on, it is up to all the parties with representation in the Cortes Generales to have a broad vision, put aside partisan interests and reach agreements to govern Spain. It is clear that the citizens have chosen a progressive government, a party with a progressive government program, and that is the responsibility of the PSOE, to obtain that support to form that Government," continued Ariagona González.

For this new legislature, the socialist has stated that it will be "essential" for the PSOE to "improve the minimum interprofessional wage, repeal the most harmful aspects of the labor reform, recover the collective bargaining of a new Statute of Workers and have coverage for the self-employed."
