The Socialist Group of the Yaiza City Council will bring to the next Plenary a motion for the elaboration and approval of regulatory bases that order the procedure for registration, admission, and participation in municipal summer camps.

The socialist spokesperson, Carmen Guadalupe, explained that this initiative seeks to consolidate summer camps as a public service of a social, educational, and inclusive nature, especially necessary for many families in the municipality during holiday periods.

“The summer months represent an enormous challenge each year for many families who have to balance their work responsibilities with the care of their children. Therefore, municipal camps are a fundamental tool to support work-life balance, but they must be organized with planning, transparency, and clear criteria,” stated Guadalupe.

The PSOE recalls that last year free summer camps were launched in educational facilities and different centers in the municipality, a measure that the socialists consider positive and which, in their opinion, should be consolidated in Yaiza with adequate regulation and a vocation for permanence.

Carmen Guadalupe stressed that last summer's experience should serve to advance a more ordered model, with public bases, defined deadlines, and objective admission criteria. “Families have the right to know in advance how many places are offered, what the requirements are, what documentation they must submit, how places are allocated, and what possibilities they have in case they are on a reserve list,” she affirmed.

The socialist motion proposes that the regulatory bases include aspects such as the number of places offered, the target ages, the centers or facilities where the activity will take place, the schedules, the services available, the required documentation, the registration deadlines, the publication of provisional and definitive lists, the period for appeals, and the creation of a reserve list.

Likewise, the Socialist Group proposes incorporating objective scoring criteria that take into account registration in the municipality, the employment situation of families, the income of the family unit, the status of single-parent or large families, the existence of minors with disabilities or specific support needs, as well as situations of social vulnerability accredited by the municipal Social Services.

Carmen Guadalupe insisted that planning is key for this resource to function correctly. “Publishing the call for applications with sufficient time allows families to organize themselves and the City Council to process the applications with legal certainty, transparency, and foresight. We are talking about a service that directly affects the daily lives of many families,” she indicated.

The Socialist Group also requests that all information relating to the bases, call for applications, lists, and procedure be published on the electronic headquarters, the municipal website, and the official channels of the Yaiza City Council, guaranteeing maximum publicity and transparency.

Finally, the motion proposes to carry out an annual evaluation of the operation of the summer camps, incorporating data on participation, unmet demand, incidents, detected needs, and proposals for improvement for future calls for applications.
