The PSOE of Lanzarote denounces that the government of Oswaldo Betancort (Canarian Coalition and Popular Party) has become the most expensive in advisors in the history of the Cabildo. With 7 island directors, compared to 3 from the previous government, and the creation of a new body of Island Coordinators that did not exist before, spending on senior political positions has reached unprecedented figures. Between Directors and Island Coordinators, the number of political advisors has tripled compared to the previous stage.
Despite this disproportionate increase, a professional criterion has not been applied in the election of these positions, but rather a clear distribution of positions among friends and supporters. "They haven't looked for the best, they've looked for their own," criticized the spokesperson for the socialist group, Ariagona González.
In addition to the number of advisors, the salary cost of these has also skyrocketed. While in the previous government the average salary of these positions was 55,000 euros per year, under Betancort's management it has risen to 75,000 euros, an increase of 50%. "More advisors, more expensive and less prepared. This is Oswaldo Betancort's management model," González pointed out.
From the PSOE of Lanzarote they also remember that this fact fits with Betancort's seal, who in his day tried to put himself on a salary higher than that of the President of the Government of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, and who now maintains an exorbitant political structure with public funds.
"The double standard of the Canarian Coalition and the PP is scandalous. While they were asking for cuts in these resources last legislature, they are squandering the money of the people of Lanzarote by tripling in unnecessary advisors," added the socialist spokesperson.
The PSOE demands transparency in the Cabildo's hiring and an immediate reduction in the number of political advisors. "What this island needs is investment in essential services, not inflated salaries for the president's friends," concluded González.
